Happy Pi Day!

Oh man, talk about a Wednesday chock full o' goodness. It's Pi Day, plus Buffy Season 8: the comic book by Dark Horse premiered today. Woot!

In honor of this uber-nerd event, I shall now commence in geeking out by recapping WonderCon from a coupla weeks back:

In addition to the usual shopping fest o' comic books and related paraphrenelia, I got to meet Greg Weisman (co-creator of The Gargoyles TV show and current writer of the comic book), gawked at Michael Chabon (author of one of my favorite novels of all time, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay), and listened to Brad Bird (writer of  The Incredibles) talk about his latest film, Ratatouille.

Nothing else to report, though I am looking forward to Girls' Night tomorrow, and to a three-day weekend of fun adventures like doing my laundry and running errands ;)

Have revised my Lent sacrifice from "No Fast Food" to "No Junk Food" which is actually a far more all-encompassing category. No more snackies, no more candy, no more soda, no more deep fried food - nothin' but fresh, healthy, unprocessed goodness.

Let me tell ya, for me, this is HUGE.  Luckily, Chris is also gung ho for this forty-day experiment, so at least I have a partner in crime. Well, two partners in crime - Chris, and WHOLE FOODS.

I heart Whole Foods. We went last night to stock up on groceries, as this new experiment renders the little food I have at home inedible. All those beautiful rows of fresh fruits and veggies, all bright and colorful and tempting, helped to ease the transition greatly :D

Huzzah for Lost

Okay, gotta give mad props to last week's episode - I've had my faith in LOST restored.

Tahoe Weekend Firsts

1. First time cross-country skiing!

2. First time playing Malarky. Excellent game.

3. First time driving from Chris' house to my apartment (on way home from Tahoe :D) Goal is by next year's ski trip, I'll be the one behind the wheel.

Chris (attempting to use a French pet name): "Bonjour, mon petit dejeuner."
Rae: "Uh. . . .did you just call me breakfast?"

Since visiting Chris in London didn't pan out last month, Chris and I are considering  a trip to Paris the next time his company sends him overseas.

I've started studying French again in earnest, spending my train rides memorizing vocab and grammar and listening to French dialogues on my iPod. Have also started watching "French In Action" episodes on my Tivo. (My French class homies will remember this cheesy-yet-awesome 1980's show well!)

Am enjoying myself immensely. Turns out studying is the best hobby I've picked up since knitting ;). I'd forgotten how much I love to learn, how satisfying it is to tuck a new word or phrase into my head and remember it.

France, here I come.

Two Thanksgiving bashes down, two to go.

The first, a potluck gathering with Chris' friends, was the biggest party I've been to since undergrad. Highlights from the menu (assorted appetizers and desserts, as expected given the potluck status ;)) include stuffed mushrooms and pumpkin cheesecake.

The second was a more intimate dinner at our apartment. Drea cooked an amazing dinner - my first ever vegetarian Thanksgiving feast :D - with pumpkin stew, maple carrots, citrus greenbeans, and cornbread. Then we sampled Aleesh's new Wii and opened (very) early Christmas presents a la Char and Aleesh. Did I mention I have the best friends ever?

As awesome as the first two Thanksgiving meals were, I'm looking forward to the upcoming family ones even more!! Mom's turkey, and home-made pumpkin pie, mmmm yeah. Oh, and board games with my sis and cousins all of Thursday. Can't wait. It's due time for some QT with the fam. I love the holidays.
